  • With or without a provisional

How it works

  1. I file your non-provisional and stay your agent of record through examination.
  2. You approve the office-action responses examination needs.
  3. If the examiner still allows no claims, your $9,000 comes back.

Not refunded

*Eligibility is discussed in our initial engagement. See which cases the guarantee covers. Full terms are in the engagement letter.

Why New York IP

Most patent firms bill by the hour and get paid whether your patent is allowed or not. I quote one fixed price per stage, in writing, before I start. And on the non-provisional, I put my fee on the line.

How it works

From napkin sketch to granted patent.

The questions founders ask me most, and what happens at each stage.

Know what’s out there before you spend on drafting.

I search patents and technical literature and give you a written view of what’s likely patentable, so your drafting dollars go into claims that can survive.

    About

    Kofi Aninakwa

For more than ten years I’ve written and prosecuted patent applications, many of them for some of the largest technology portfolios in the world. That work taught me how strong claims are built. Founders deserve the same care at a price they can plan around.

I’m also studying at Wharton, so I think about patents the way investors do: as business assets that should match your product and your fundraising.

    Before you book.

What’s the difference between a patent agent and a patent attorney?

Both pass the USPTO’s registration exam and can prepare, file and prosecute patent applications. A patent agent doesn’t give legal opinions outside USPTO practice, such as infringement, licensing or litigation. If you need those, I’ll refer you to an attorney.

    What does the guarantee refund?

The $9,000 non-provisional fee, if your application ends examination with no allowed claims. The search, provisional, office-action and USPTO fees are not refunded.

What if I file a provisional and never convert it?

The provisional locked your filing date for 12 months, so it did its job. Its fee isn’t refunded.

Which cases does the guarantee cover?

The guarantee applies only to deep-tech and similar cases: hardware, semiconductors and electronics, medical devices, batteries and energy, robotics, and other physical or technical inventions. We discuss whether your case qualifies during our initial engagement, and I confirm it in writing before drafting.

What do the USPTO fees come to?

They depend on your entity size and the stage, and small and micro entities pay much less. I itemize them before filing and bill them at cost.

Is what I share with you confidential?

Yes. After our first call I’ll send a secure link for your files.

Can you take over an application that’s already pending?

Yes. Send the application number and the latest office action, and I’ll quote a flat fee for the next response.
